I was so lucky to have a chance to visit V. Valima's exhibition Suon pinnassa (On the surface of peatland) at Galleria Koppelo. This wonderful artist has really captured the nature of swamps in his paintings. He describes this wonderful arctic fragile peatland nature in a very delicate way.

V. Valima himself comments that a swamp forms very slowly layer by layer like the paintings. In his paintings swamp stands for mind, consciousness and thoughts. Swamp is often associated to suffering, difficulties or even death. V. Valima has succeeded in bringing all these different features of peatland in his paintings.
